The first Art and About Trail installation is now in place at Halifax Central Library and Archives. The installation features a poem engraving to commemorate Halifax war hero, Marine David Moffatt, one of the Cockleshell Heroes involved in Operation Frankton in 1942.
Award winning poet and writer, Ian Humphreys, created "The Island of Ferns" poem which has been engraved on locally sourced Yorkshire stone.
The artwork was unveiled as part of a special event on Saturday 8 November 2025 which was attended by members of David’s family who shared his heroic story.
The Art and About Trail, part of Halifax Future High Streets, is funded by the UK Government. It will feature a mix of brand-new art installations and existing landmarks in Halifax town centre.
The completed trail will guide people around the town centre, highlighting Halifax’s unique history, culture and art along the way.
