Overview
These proposals focus on the area between Halifax, Stump Cross, Hipperholme, Shelf, and Northowram.
People have told us:
- Roads are busy and congested,
- Air quality is poor,
- Walking can feel unsafe, and
- Buses are often delayed.
We want to make it easier for people to travel around the area.
Benefits
We aim to:
- improve bus journeys and the experience for people when they take the bus,
- reduce journey times,
- improve the reliability of bus services,
- make walking and cycling safer and more attractive,
- make walking and wheeling routes more accessible, and
- have a positive impact on the environment.
Plans
We're developing three sets of proposals for North East Calderdale:
- Stump Cross to New Bank
- Hipperholme, Shelf, and Northowram
- Hipperholme Railway Station feasibility study
Stump Cross to New Bank
Proposals include:
- Faster and more reliable journeys along two new bus lanes, one on Bradford Road at
Stump Cross, and the other on New Bank; - Safer places to cross at New Bank, the entrance to Shibden Hall Park, and at Stump Cross;
- Upgraded signals;
- A new ramp leading from Godley Lane to the entrance of Shibden Hall;
- Upgraded bus stops with real-time passenger information, and
- Upgraded walking routes.
Bradford Road to Shibden Hall
We are proposing to create a new bus lane, and a new place to cross on Bradford Road.
At Stump Cross, we are proposing a new crossing and more space to walk safely. Buses will have priority at the end of the new bus lane.
On Godley Lane, we're proposing to build ramped access to Shibden Hall Park to improve access for everyone. We are proposing to add a bus stop shelter and upgrade the crossing. The new crossing will be designed to allow people more time to cross safely, and the new ramp will mean people who find the steps difficult or impossible to use aren't forced to walk in the road.
Shibden Hall to New Bank
We're proposing to create a bus lane through this section towards Halifax. We will add a new crossing near to the junction with New Bank.
The proposed new bus lane will end at the junction with Beacon Hill Road. We are proposing to widen the eastbound cycle lane. There will be small changes to the junction layout, and we plan to upgrade traffic signals in this area.
Hipperholme, Shelf, and Northowram
These proposals are at an early stage of development. Plans may include:
- Improvements to junctions and roads,
- Safer walking routes,
- Better bus stops and travel information,
- Creating quieter, more pleasant streets, and
- Improving signs and wayfinding.
Hipperholme Railway Station feasibility study
We are conducting a study to explore whether a new train station at Hipperholme could be possible in the future.
We are looking into questions like:
- Would a station fit into the rail network?
- Would a new station cause delays to some train services?
- What benefits could a new station bring to the local area?
No decision has been made, and no funding is in place to build a new rail station. The study will gather evidence and start a conversation, so if conditions are right in the future, the idea could be moved forward.
